About Us

Our love and respect for dogs have accompanied us throughout our entire lives. For us, living with dogs has always meant far more than a simple hobby. It is a special bond built on loyalty, trust, and mutual understanding.

Our cynological interest initially focused on sporting and hunting breeds, but in 2005, an Irish Terrier changed our lives forever. The arrival of Kefe opened up a completely new world for us. His exceptional intelligence, temperament, and endearing character made such a profound impression on us that the Irish Terrier quickly became our passion. Since then, this remarkable breed has been at the very heart of our lives and work.

In 2008, we founded the Of the Hunterriers kennel. Today, we are already breeding the fifth generation. We consider it essential that all of our dogs are treated as equals. None should be privileged or neglected, as a dog is a social being and does not belong in kennels for long periods, only to be taken out occasionally for a show, a mating, or a hunt.

A responsible breeder must find the optimal number of dogs that allows sufficient time, attention, and financial resources to be provided for each individual, ensuring the highest possible standard of care, nutrition, and veterinary support. We also strongly believe that a breeder’s responsibility does not end at the point of placing a puppy in its new home. This responsibility continues far beyond that. Mistakes in early socialization can have long-lasting effects on the dog’s future life with its new owners, just as hereditary conditions may only become apparent months or even years later. We consider dog breeding a great responsibility, as every dog leaving the breeder becomes a companion that accompanies a family for many years, becoming an integral part of their everyday life.

As a veterinarian, I very often encounter situations where people choose a dog based on trends and advertising, even though the chosen breed often does not match their expectations or lifestyle. As a result of such decisions, both parties suffer later, the dog and the family alike. A dog represents a 10-15 year commitment, which is why breeders have a significant role in responsibly guiding prospective owners. A conscientious breeder with deep knowledge of the breed is able to honestly assess whether the chosen breed is truly suitable for a given family. There are more visually appealing, long-haired, fashionable, and expensive breeds, often accompanied by numerous hereditary diseases, weak temperaments, and a tendency toward allergies, as well as a large number of dogs of unknown origin and without pedigree due to irresponsible breeding practices. Fortunately, the Irish Terrier has never become a victim of fashion. Breeders of this  breed have always carried out their work with responsibility, ensuring that the Irish Terrier has preserved its character and health to this day.  Fortunately there is no such thing as "an Irish Terrier without pedigree".

About half of the puppies born in our kennel go to owners involved in sporting and working dog activities. Most Hunterriers dogs actively work as hunting companions in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Hungary. At the same time, the breed’s versatility is also demonstrated in many other areas. We are particularly proud of our therapy dogs, rescue dogs, and successful sporting dogs.

Breeding is something one continues to learn throughout an entire lifetime. A breeder learns from respected and well-established colleagues, as well as from their own successes and mistakes. We consider ourselves fortunate, as international dog shows have given us the opportunity to personally meet renowned breeders whose dogs we had previously admired only online. We have visited the Merrymac kennel in Sweden and the Emsmühle kennel in Germany. The breeders of Emsmühle, Karina and Hans Grüttner, continuously provide us with valuable theoretical and practical advice, for which we are sincerely grateful.

Our goal is to breed Irish Terriers that exemplify the breed both in appearance and temperament. We strive for the harmonious combination of correct conformation, good health, and the remarkable character that is so typical of the Irish Terrier.
